Company Section

Company Section BB is for boys in P7 to S3 and meets alongside our Senior Section on both Fridays and Sundays. Attending on both days regularly is an expectation of membership, whilst we also offer other activities on Wednesdays and Thursdays (see below).

On a Friday evening, we meet from 8.00-10.15pm in Dunblane Cathedral Hall, for a scheduled programme which includes physical activities (e.g. volleyball, gymnastics, dodgeball, circuit training), life skills and badge activities (e.g. digital animation, wilderness first aid, DIY skills, drill (marching), cooking) and some social time in tuck shop, as well as our opening devotions and inspection – a time to think about what the BB and Christianity are about.

Every alternate Sunday we have a Bacon Roll Bible Study Class from 10am – 10.45am at St Mary’s Church hall. This is a chance to share breakfast together and chat through some of the things going on in the world and what we read about in the Bible and how it can be relevant to our lives today.

On Wednesdays our band meets (training band 6.45-7.30pm for learners, 7.30-9.15pm for main band) where you can learn a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument (provided by us) if you commit to signing up.

On Thursdays our piping class meets (7pm – 8.45pm).

Throughout a typical year, we’ll also get involved in local and national team and individual competitions, such as 5-a-side football, table tennis, badminton, chess, FIFA, Masterteam quiz, basketball, swimming, cross-country and more. We help out in the community and wider church and do fundraising events such as sponsored walks, book sales, bag-packing, band concerts, etc. We have several residential opportunities, including our popular outdoor centre weekend with the Abernethy Trust in the autumn and our week-long summer canvas camp the first week of the summer holidays. We have a big focus on the outdoors, and get boys out in the hills and on their bikes as often as possible. We were 2023 Junior champions of the BB’s national hiking competition, The Kilbryde Hike, and encourage boys to train for a take part in such events.

Boys in S3 and above who have achieved their 14th birthday may register through BB for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Bronze) after a 3-month trial period at BB. We also offer progression to Silver and Gold Awards when boys join the Senior section.

Joining the Company Section is a big commitment and, with our very healthy numbers, we do stress that to really get the full value from BB, boys need to take part not only on Fridays and Sundays, but also in the additional activities that are offered, such as competitions, hikes, community service opportunities, etc. We suggest coming along for a few weeks to see how you like it – we know you will, but also try to get an idea of what your friends do that makes the BB experience so great for them. Please note that waiting lists are in operation for most year groups.
