Why Volunteer with the Boys’ Brigade?

Children and young people at the Boys’ Brigade get the chance to get involved in a huge range of exciting activities and adventures, from abseiling, circus skills, football and much more. There are also opportunities to get involved in international work, community action projects, camping and various sports.

As a volunteer you can take an active part in some of these fun and exciting activities. Or you can simply help organise activities with the children and young people which form the core of our weekly programmes on Wednesday or Friday nights.

BB changes lives

We see and believe that the Boys’ Brigade changes young people’s lives for the better, so why not get involved and play your part?

How will it change you?

You’ll get a great sense of satisfaction from watching the boys and young men develop their confidence and skills, as well as have lots of fun. In addition, working to improve your community will give you a huge sense of personal achievement and looks great on your CV.

We’ll provide you with all the training opportunities you need to build on your exisiting skills as well as providing support and guidance.

How can you help?

You can help in many different ways that will suit your different interests and lifestyles. Most leaders come along every week and do their share of planning and leading activities using the resources we have from BB HQ or using their own skills or interests. If you are short of time or are unsure if BB is for you, why not have a chat with us to find out more? Whether you can give an hour a month, or volunteer every week, then we are sure we can find a role for you!

The Boys’ Brigade takes safeguarding seriously and we follow best practice guidelines and procedures for the recruitment of adult leaders. After meeting with our Captain to discuss possible suitable roles, you’ll be asked to provide a couple of references and complete a PVG check (or scheme update) with Disclosure Scotland through the Church of Scotland, which oversees our safeguarding paperwork. All leaders complete this procedure and two short e-learning modules before they start volunteering with children and young people.
